Man Made Climate Change “Skeptics” vs “The Consensus”

Information Is beautiful! And this image is pretty! And its fairly balanced, tho i do have some issues with some of the labels applied.

For the most part I’m agnostic on this issue, so call me a skeptic… but don’t call me a denier! I do believe that the climate has changed, and will continue to change regardless of man’s emissions. Now that’s not to say that our actions don’t have any impact on the environment, because obviously they do! Now I’m all for efforts to remedy detrimental behaviors but not for the sake of an unproven crisis. Especially when the reality reflects an opposite trend. I’ll likely get a lot of slack for saying “unproven”, but I’ve yet to find anything convincing that indicates that the earth’s climate has been altered significantly by man’s actions.

In my final year of college I took a ’statistics’ course and a ‘greenhouse effect’ course. Call me lazy, but in an effort to consolidate final projects and kill two birds with one stone. I set out to statistically prove man made global warming. I received two A’s, one in each course for my paper; however I couldn’t prove with 90% certainty (the FDA requires certainty of 95% for pharmaceutical companies) that global warming was significantly influenced by greenhouse gas emissions. My hypothesis was wrong! Sure i found a strong correlation, however correlation is not causation. If it were so, one could just as easily claim that increases in temperatures are what’s causing the increase in greenhouse gasses.

Now I’m no geologist, meteorologist, or statistician; And i wouldn’t dare suggest that my work could survive the scrutiny of a professional scientific review, but my work did prompt me to investigate opinions counter to those that had previously influenced me. Opinions from groups and individuals with proper credentials. And the more and more information i’ve uncovered, the less and less inclined I’ve been to follow suit with “the consensus”.

What say you?

Quick Updates 5/29 - Diligent Me

These are the things affecting my life at the moment. (# of exclamations relates significance)

  • Work has been pretty good lately, I’ve been producing pilot segments that seem to be garnering a little bit of attention around the office.  In addition I’ve taken part in some volunteer work through my job that has also proved to be rewarding!!
  • I’ve teamed up with three co-workers to compete in a competition that requires us to produce a video that fits the theme “Dream Big”.  We’re almost finished and its coming together nicely;  I think we may actually have a shot at winning the 28K.  Fingers Crossed!!
  • I’m currently in the editing stages of a music video that I’m directing. We filmed earlier this month and since I’ve completed the first draft but tons more needs to be done before the July delivery date. I’m a tad stressed over this one!!!
  • This weekend I’ll be heading up to New York for Rafi’s birthday party and to film more videos for I’m From Driftwood.  I like going to nyc, I like birthday parties, and I like filming things, so this should be a fun weekend!
  • Booked Booked Booked!  As you can probably see from above, I’ve got a full platter on my table.  In addition I have commitments every weekend through the 4th of July weekend.  I’m finally living up to the Diligent.me ethos!!!!

Pirates OaaaaRRRR Coast Guard?

So it seems there is a story that’s not being told here, and I suspect it much much bigger than you or I choose to imagine. Large ships being hijacked by a few men with old old weapons, many escaping with millions in bounty, some under the watch of wester military forces. It doesn’t add up if you ask me! I suggest doing your own homework b/c CNN won’t be reporting the real story.

P.S. I apologize for the corny headline, I couldn’t resist.

What does 12.8 Trillion Look Like?

Above is an image of what a man would look like standing next to a pile of $1 trillion worth of $100s. Picture that 12.8 times.[Business Insider]

Yep that’s a lot of dough… enough dough in fact that had this money not been spent/allocated for banks, insurers, auto makers etc… each American tax payer could have been cut a tax rebate check for > $90k. Wonder if that would have helped stimulate the economy? Just Sayin’

Pay Attention Damnit!

Here are links to news stories that you should be paying attention to, but undoubtedly aren’t.

  • Hicks and old folk need an extra 5 months to figure out what they couldn’t figure out in the last 5 years. DTV Bill? Senate says YES House says NO
  • This probably shouldn’t be taken serious considering the source (Fox News/Glenn Beck) but… I actually see the similarities. Is the U.S. the next USSR?
  • I can’t believe that previous to 2008 no one thought to patent multi-touch b/c everyone loves to be touched multipleee. At least I do! Apple WINS!
