Man Made Climate Change “Skeptics” vs “The Consensus”

Information Is beautiful! And this image is pretty! And its fairly balanced, tho i do have some issues with some of the labels applied.

For the most part I’m agnostic on this issue, so call me a skeptic… but don’t call me a denier! I do believe that the climate has changed, and will continue to change regardless of man’s emissions. Now that’s not to say that our actions don’t have any impact on the environment, because obviously they do! Now I’m all for efforts to remedy detrimental behaviors but not for the sake of an unproven crisis. Especially when the reality reflects an opposite trend. I’ll likely get a lot of slack for saying “unproven”, but I’ve yet to find anything convincing that indicates that the earth’s climate has been altered significantly by man’s actions.

In my final year of college I took a ’statistics’ course and a ‘greenhouse effect’ course. Call me lazy, but in an effort to consolidate final projects and kill two birds with one stone. I set out to statistically prove man made global warming. I received two A’s, one in each course for my paper; however I couldn’t prove with 90% certainty (the FDA requires certainty of 95% for pharmaceutical companies) that global warming was significantly influenced by greenhouse gas emissions. My hypothesis was wrong! Sure i found a strong correlation, however correlation is not causation. If it were so, one could just as easily claim that increases in temperatures are what’s causing the increase in greenhouse gasses.

Now I’m no geologist, meteorologist, or statistician; And i wouldn’t dare suggest that my work could survive the scrutiny of a professional scientific review, but my work did prompt me to investigate opinions counter to those that had previously influenced me. Opinions from groups and individuals with proper credentials. And the more and more information i’ve uncovered, the less and less inclined I’ve been to follow suit with “the consensus”.

What say you?

Politics! I Can Ride a Bike With No Handlebars

In the past few weeks I think I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no saving us. I’m not exactly sure who ‘us’ is but it definitely includes me and likely you too. Unfortunately most of ‘us’ are cynical, apathetic, or just plain ignorant; our saviors are corrupt; and our activist are emotionally misguided. Shame Shame!

Recently I was involved in a debate concerning whaling and seal clubbing. While I understand and can support the “ethical” treatment of any/every living organism; I do believe that there are far more important issues to concern one’s self with. The ethical treatment of people across the world would be a logical place to start. Even still I believe there are more important issues at hand. I’ve personally concluded that the rising population, coupled with our dependency on fossil fuels is our greatest and most imminent threat. Inflation is destined thus wars will be fought, hunger and disease will reach epidemic levels world wide, and governments will fall.

To be clear, I’m NOT attacking people who care about animal issues, as I tend to side with them. However, considering the outlook that I subscribe to, I cannot fathom putting money, energy, time, and resources behind such causes. Now if one doesn’t agree with my outlook, that’s perfectly fine. BUT, if anyone would like me to seriously consider taking up their whaling or clubbing or ‘fill in the blank’ cause then they’ll need to convince me that my perspective is A) Wrong, or B) Less of a threat than their cause.

For whatever reason I though this to be appropriate.
